Unit 5 - Asian Civilizations: Qin Dynasty

Time Span:

  • c. 500 BC – 221 BC

Key Events:

  • Confucious teaches his code of ethics.

  • Lau-tzu founds Taoism.

  • Qin Shi Huangdi conquers the seven warring kingdoms of China to form one united Chinese empire.

  • Qin Shi Huangdi builds the Great Wall of China, implements standardization, practices censorship, and builds 7,500 terracotta soldiers to be buried with him.

Lesson Plan

Independent/Group Work:  (15 minutes)

  • Announce the three individuals with the highest score. 
  • Have the student(s) work to edit DPE Week 14 Monday.  
  • Have the student(s) turn the worksheet over and answer the slide 4 questions on the back.
  • Discuss the correct answers.  Have the student(s) answer “why” for each answer given.

  • Disucss analysis and share insights. (10 minutes)

  • Finalize Unique Design Topic Selection and write a 1-3 sentence description.
  • Choose and describe the project to be completed.

Personal Narrative Speech Presentations:  (35 minutes)

  • Present:  Have the student(s) present their personal narrative speech.
  • Feedback:  Provide verbal feedback after each presentation. See Feedback Guidelines for helpful tips.
  • Capstone Speakers:  Select two student volunteers to present to the large group next week as capstone speakers.
  • Make-up Speeches:  Anyone who is absent will have the opportunity to present their speech at the beginning of class next week.
